Donald Elsworth Arenson was born September 27, 1917 in Brooten, Minnesota to George and Ida (Evenson) Arenson. He was raised in Brooten and graduated from high school in 1936. After his education he and his brother Jimmy owned and operated Arenson Brothers' Garage in Brooten. In March 1941 he joined the US Army and served in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge in August 1945 he returned to Brooten. He married Ruby Skinner on February 14, 1947 in Minneapolis. After marriage they lived in Glenwood until moving to Minneapolis in 1950. He began working for a car dealership on Lake Street, and in 1954 he purchased that business and renamed it D&H Motors. In 1973 he sold the dealership and began working for Walser Buick. He retired in December 1982, but continued selling cars for many years. Don was a life member of Fred Babcock VFW Post 5555 in Richfield, a member of the St. Louis Park American Legion and a former member of the Optimist Club. While in auto sales he received the Buick Professional President's Award - one of their highest honors. He enjoyed fishing, family and friends, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children: Greg and wife Carol of Prior Lake, Vicki and husband Dave Bess of Burnsville, Dave and wife Sue of Edina; 7 grandchildren: Keith Arenson & wife Azure, Kacie and Christopher Arenson, Kari and Jason Bess, Geoff and Drew Arenson. He is also survived by his longtime companion Toddy Wright of Edina and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby in May, 1989, his parents, 3 brothers and 6 sisters.
Don passed away on Sunday morning, January 9, 2005 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota at the age of 87.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2005 at Thomson-Dougherty Funeral Home, 2535 Park Avenue, Minneapolis. Interment with Military Honors with be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Honorary Pall Bearers are his grandchildren.«/i»
