Clarence Albert Arenson of Brooten, MN died at the Belgrade Nursing Home on April 15, 1996 after a brief illness at the age of 84. He had been in declining health for several years.
He was born January 22, 1912 in Brooten, the son of George Arenson and Ida Evenson. He grew to manhood there being baptized by Rev. Tolo and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. A. H. Hoyme at Trinity Lutheran Church and was graduated from Brooten High School in 1930. After graduation he worked at several jobs including car sales, gas station operation, and at the Willmar Produce. In the late 1930's he was employed at the Brooten Creamery. On June 24, 1936 he was married to Verna Syverson of Gilchrist Township, Pope County, MN. To this union three children were born. During World War II he was employed by Northwest Airlines in St. Paul, MN building B-24 and B-25 bombers for the war effort. After the war he returned to Brooten where he opened a restaurant and pool hall. In 1956 he took over the Mobil Bulk Agent position delivering petroleum supplies to area homes, businesses, and farmers. This he continued until his retirement in 1974. He was known among his many friends as a great fisherman and fished the lakes near Brooten his entire life. In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball. He was a strong member of the 1932 Minnesota State "C" Division Championship Baseball Team from Brooten. He served as a volunteer fireman for more than 20 years. In his retirement he continued to fish and enjoyed attending local auctions always looking for that chair or table to save and refinish to its original glory.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Verna, daughter Sharon Reyno of Brooten and sons Barron (Carole) Arenson of Tempe, AZ and John (Betty) Arenson of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren: Shelly Reyno Carter of Wauwatosa, WI, David Reyno of Aliso Viejo, CA, Noah and Peter Arenson of Tempe, AZ, Beth Tucker Kuettel of Lake Jackson, TX, and Kristy Tucker McAdoo of LeRoy, NY, and four great-granddaughters: Haley Sharon Carter, Wauwatosa, WI, Megan Marie Kuettel, Lake Jackson, TX, Krystal and Kimberley Tucker of Grand Junction, CO; one brother: Donald Arenson of Edina, MN, two sisters: Eleanor Harrison of Vancouver, WA and Violet Snyder of White Bear Lake, MN; two stepsisters: Dorothy Robinson Syzmiot of St. Paul, MN and Katherine Robinson Dean of Florida.
He is preceded in death by his father, George, in 1918, his mother, Ida, in 1963, sisters Hazel (1982), Mildred (1975), Cora (1969), Mabel (1995) and two brothers, Walter (1956) and James (1983).
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten with Rev. Rebecca Sogge officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Johnson Funeral Home of Belgrade. Pallbearers were: David Reyno, Noah Arenson, Peter Arenson, grandsons; Sheldon Baker, Robert Imsdahl, George Arenson, nephews.«/i»
